Because it does not need internet to send your current location to other folks. A simple sms will contain the link to your current location can be sent across to other people. Useful when you don’t have access to net/high speed net. NOTE: if the link has to be opened in win8 map app, the browser settings will have to be set to “mobile version” instead of “desktop version”.
